The Zimbabwean artist Masimba Hwati invited the audience to a bread-breaking ceremony recalling the history of the Chimurenga, the revolutionary uprisings, and the Shona and Ndebele rebellions in former Rhodesia, today Zimbabwe. Bread Scores is inspired by a particular kind of bread brought to political prisoners, in which activists, relatives and friends smuggled newspaper clippings, news of the uprising, words of solidarity and love letters. Hwati hid musical scores inspired by traditional Chimurenga resistance songs inside loaves of bread and asked the musicians to interpret them in sound. The performance took place in the Mrinalini Mukherjee Halle and was broadcast live on Cashmere Radio, Radio Submarine and bauhaus.fm.
